Paediatric Information
Brisbane Northside Emergency provides immediate and quality care for children 24 hours day, seven days week- including public holidays.
BNE treats children of all ages with most childhood accidents and illnesses. In fact 25% of our presentations are children.
Our doctors and nurses have many years of paediatric emergency experience. We make your child our priority as we recognise that emergency centres can be a little scary for young children.
If required- we may use ‘happy gas’ delivered by a mask smelling of bubble gum!
We are happy to apply casts and treat fractures referred to us for our management. We do not apply casts to patients who are referred to us just for cast application.
We have access to paediatricians across Brisbane 24 hours a day. If your child requires hospitalisation, we can refer your child to a paediatrician for ongoing management. This paediatrician will decide on the most appropriate hospital for your child's care. HSN does not have a paediatric ward. Only a small number of children require hospitalisation.
No referral is required to bring your child to BNE. You can bring your child yourself, come recommended by your doctor or ambulance.
Please be advised that VERY sick infants/ children requiring urgent ambulance care should bypass BNE and continue on to the Children’s Hospital as it is the only suitable facility for this small group of children.
